Wells Fargo - Investing in Future Leaders

BizWorld Academy at Wells Fargo, February 2015

Thanks to the generous support of Wells Fargo, a group of bright 5th grade students from Ford Elementary School in Richmond, CA received an engaging education in entrepreneurship, business and finance at BizWorld Academy earlier this month. The Academy was hosted by Wells Fargo in San Francisco, CA, and was supported by about 25 employee volunteers who gave their time to mentor the students. Several employees also talked about their jobs, giving insights into possible career paths that students may not have been aware of before the camp.

Across the 2-day camp, students learned new business vocabulary words such as expense, profit, revenue, deposit, withdrawal, interest, stock, and salary. They honed their presentation skills as they raised capital for their ‘businesses’ by pitching to a Venture Capitalist or applying for a bank loan. Throughout the program, students learned the value of money and the importance of making wise financial decisions like managing their expenses, determining their pricing structures and projecting their sales revenue. We are pleased to say that every student company showed a profit and learned that collaborating as a team, keeping expenses low and profits high, creating unique designs and managing finances and the manufacturing process were the keys to success.

Thank you, Wells Fargo! Your support and the encouragement of your employees will have a lasting impact on these young lives, inspiring these students to dream of bright futures.
