One of the students got to the camp late. The reason she was late is that she was resisting going because she thought it was going to be boring. When she left today she told her mom, “If they taught us like this in school, we would be the best educated people on the planet!”
BizWorld was such an amazing experience that I am grateful to have been a part of. Seeing the kids feeling empowered and excited to learn the process of starting a business and seeing their confidence grow was very rewarding. I loved to see how they stepped out of their comfort zone and pushed themselves during the camp. As a first-time volunteer I am so happy with my experience and excited to continue volunteering in the future.
The best part of BizWorld is watching the kids collaborate to create something that they are passionate about and proud of. From creating their company’s name and logo, to producing a commercial to market their brand, it is amazing to see what they can accomplish. BizWorld is an extremely rewarding event and I look forward to participating next year.
All the kids were great but the biggest surprise for me came from the quietest student in my group that stepped up and grabbed the microphone during the advertising/commercial and really captured everyone off guard with her enthusiasm and excitement of showing off what her team had done! Turns out she was listening and taking it all in and when the opportunity came, she jumped all over it! Without a doubt, she was impacted by the time we spent together!!!
After negotiating with the VCs to get a higher stock price, one student told me today, “I’ve never negotiated with anyone other than my mom. I don’t even ask my friends if I can have a bite of their food. I thought it would feel rude to ask for more money, but it wasn’t, and it worked!
Getting to know my mentee has been a greater joy than I ever anticipated. She is a talented, creative young woman full of potential and willingness to learn. I participated in one of the workshops, and the energy of the YES program entrepreneurs in the room was inspiring and contagious.
I really enjoyed meeting with the group and hearing about their business ideas. You can really see their excitement in this process, and it was rewarding to help contribute to that.
The young people were very engaged and demonstrated that they not only wanted to be there, but were open to learning and growing. They also had a spirit of gratitude and appreciation which was great.
Coaching at BizWorld is one of the most fulfilling activities in my life. I really feel I can do some good here. I like that the programs seem hard-driving and really teach skills needed by young entrepreneurs.
